July 2026 Historical Society Meeting

Speaker: Brian Smith, Executive Director of the Butler County Historical Society

Topic: “Hot Fun in the Summertime: Butler County’s Summer Delights of the 1950s and ’60s.” Speaker, Brian smith, will take a look back at popular summertime destinations and activities in Butler County during the decades following World War II. The program will highlight drive-in movie theaters, drive-in restaurants, local swimming pools, and other favorite gathering spots. He will also discuss local snack food manufacturers, county-based soda bottling companies, and a Hamilton-made product that became a national phenomenon and symbol of the American suburban and recreational lifestyle of the 1950s.
